Kerra
Top 8 Finalist Project
Alexander Chon, Jacob Dunlop, Caraiosa O'Farrell, Derek Myung
Kerra addresses the global waste of 85% of wool supply by collaborating with Bay Area farmers to reclaim its value. The project focuses on building connections between textile innovators, farmers, animals, and the land. Using green chemistry, Kerra unlocks keratin—the protein in wool—exploring its natural elasticity to create a high-performance, biodegradable textile. This innovation reduces agricultural waste, offers an alternative to petroleum-based fabrics, and supports rural economies. By closing the wool industry’s loop, Kerra provides a scalable, circular solution that reduces waste, promotes sustainability, and reimagines the future of eco-friendly clothing.
